Conditions We Treat
Back pain
& Sciatica
Back pain is the most common issue we see at our clinic, so we are fully prepared to address it. Chiropractors are experts in helping people with back pain. It can stem from various causes, including injuries, structural issues or lifestyle factors; and we understand it can be a source of concern. That’s why we conduct a thorough assessment to rule out any serious underlying issues.
Sciatica is a broad term used to describe irritation of the sciatic nerve. It can be triggered by various factors, including back pain, herniated discs, pregnancy and muscle knots in the buttock, among others. Sciatica commonly causes sharp, shooting pain along the side of one leg and may also be accompanied by symptoms such as tingling (pins and needles), numbness, or even muscle weakness.

Headaches
& Migraines
Chiropractic can help with several types of headaches, particularly those related to issues in the musculoskeletal system. These include tension-type headaches, migraines, and cervicogenic headaches. Cervicogenic headaches are a type of secondary headache that are caused by an underlying issue in the neck (cervical spine) that refers pain to the head. Migraines are more than just severe headaches—they can include symptoms like nausea, vomiting, and sensitivity to light or sound, and can significantly impact daily life. While chiropractic care may not eliminate migraines fully, it can be a valuable part of a comprehensive management plan aimed at reducing triggers. Many people find that regular chiropractic adjustments, combined with lifestyle changes can lead to a significant reduction in migraine frequency and severity.

Mechanical
neck pain
Neck pain can vary in intensity from a mild ache to severe, debilitating pain, and may limit the movement of the head and neck. It is a common condition that can last from a few days to several weeks or even become chronic, depending on the cause. Often, neck pain can trigger tension headaches or migraines.
It can be caused by a variety of factors, ranging from poor posture to underlying medical conditions. Some of the common causes are: overuse or repetitive movements such as hunching over a computer or phone for long periods, stress and tension, forward head posture, whiplash injury, arthritis or cervical disc issues. Our team are experts in addressing neck pain and in most cases, it improves with conservative treatment, proper posture management and a few lifestyle changes.

Shoulder pain
& Tennis elbow

Through a combination of spinal and shoulder adjustments, soft tissue therapy and bespoke rehabilitation exercises, we offer a holistic, non-invasive solution for most shoulder-related conditions, such as rotator cuff injuries, shoulder impingement, bursitis and tendonitis, frozen shoulder and arthritis. We also offer in-house diagnostic ultrasound imaging for those tricky cases or to aid us in a clear diagnosis and management plan. Tennis elbow occurs when the tendons that attach to the lateral epicondyle become inflamed or damaged due to overuse, particularly from repetitive arm and wrist motions, such as those seen in racquet sports, manual labour, or even prolonged computer use. We are fully equipped to effectively treat this nagging issue, and offer in-house ultrasound guided injections, should it be the recommended modality.
Hip joint
& Glute pain
Hip pain can arise from various causes, most commonly occurring being osteoarthritis. This joint disease occurs when the cartilage that cushions the hip joint gradually wears away, leading to pain, stiffness, and reduced mobility. Other conditions such as bursitis, glute tendinopathy, CAM or Pincer impingement and hip labral tears can also contribute to hip pain. Certain signs and symptoms may indicate a more serious underlying condition, like a fracture or infection, which is why we perform a systematic and in-depth examination for all concerns related to the hip region, to aid in an accurate diagnosis and prevent further complications. Most hip complaints respond well to conservative care combined with a tailored exercise program that strengthens the hip muscles, improve flexibility and enhances joint stability.

Knee pain
& Running injuries
Non-traumatic knee pain, such as pain during running or cycling is most commonly a result of muscular imbalances where one side of the body is weak or tight, while the other side is strong, creating a compensation mechanism that goes on for weeks, months or even years. Other type of knee pain can arise from traumatic or minor injuries and wear and tear of the cushioning between your thigh and lower leg bones. At our clinic we treat a variety of knee complaints, including meniscus tears, patella tendonitis, ITB syndrome, ACL / PCL / MCL / LCL ligament injuries, patella-femoral pain and arthritis. Often imaging, such as an MRI or ultrasound is useful to facilitate an appropriate diagnosis, potentially preventing further complications or chronic recurring issues.

Dizziness
& Vertigo
Chiropractors are equipped to treat Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV), which is a common cause of dizziness due to disturbances in the inner ear. BPPV occurs when small calcium crystals become dislodged from their normal location and move into the semicircular canals of the inner ear, leading to vertigo when the head is moved in certain positions. The Epley maneuver is the most common and effective treatment for BPPV, focusing on repositioning the crystals within the inner ear. It involves a series of head and body movements designed to move the displaced calcium crystals from the semicircular canals back to their correct position in the utricle. The Epley maneuver is highly effective, with many patients experiencing immediate relief or improvement after one or two sessions.

Jaw pain
& TMD
At Herne Hill Chiropractic we offer treatment for acute or chronic jaw pain, particularly if it is related to temporomandibular joint (TMJ) dysfunction or muscle imbalances in the jaw, neck, and surrounding areas. TMJ disorders (TMD) are a common cause of jaw pain, which can result from issues like poor posture, muscular imbalances, teeth grinding (bruxism), or injury to the jaw. Our care for jaw pain focuses on addressing the underlying musculoskeletal causes through manual therapy, adjustments, and supportive techniques. We guide our patients through jaw exercises and stretches that improve the range of motion and strength in the TMJ area.

Plantar fasciitis
& Achilles pain
Plantar Fasciitis is a common foot condition that causes pain in the plantar fascia, a thick band of tissue that runs along the bottom of the foot. PF can significantly impact a person’s quality of life, particularly when the pain is severe or chronic. The condition affects everyday activities like walking, standing, and exercising, which can lead to both physical and emotional challenges. Imbalances of the spine, pelvis, or hips can affect the way you walk and stand, leading to abnormal movement patterns that put strain on the PF. For instance, excessive inward rolling of the foot (overpronation) increases tension in the fascia. At Herne Hill Chiropractic we address both the symptoms (pain and inflammation) and the underlying causes - such as biomechanical issues and muscle imbalances.

Chiropractors are skilled at treating pain and dysfunction of the neuro-musculoskeletal system, primarily by using hands-on spinal manipulation and other manual techniques. This approach focuses on improving overall function, which can alleviate pain, reduce inflammation, and promote healing.
